Title: Trickle tower

Wanted to increase my filtration...and am after some advice

Thinking of changing the media to Siporax as the existing ones are the standard eheim stuff that came with the filter.

Also thinking of adding a trickle tower, I know the theory but am unsure how practical or easy it will be.

The tower is the sealed unit right? Do I need a pump or can I tee it from my eheim?

Also is it noisy?

cheers

you might be able to get away with getting one of those clear plastic container from wilkinson. Drill a hole near the bottom of the container and use a tank connector from b&q for returning the water in to the tank. you might want to get some filter grid or egg crate (I have heard that you can get it cheaper from the electrician shop, they call it ventilation grid) to suspend the filter media. Stick the eheim spray bar in to the container and off you go....

assuming you put the plastic container above the tank...... Also insulate it otherwise it might loose too much heat in the winter if the room is cold......

Hi Jimmy,

Its in my lounge and I to want put it under the cabinet. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Was after something like this...I think Turkis had this.

Just wondering if I can buy it somewhere..

I remember seeing somewhere on the web where aquamedic sell a clear square tube and the ends to make a tricke tower.

It looks like turkis one is above the water line. If you want it to be in the cabinet then it will get a bit more complicate as you will need a pump to pump the water back in to the tank.

Or drill your tank and have a sump with trickle tower.

cheers

I found quite a few as reactors..some come empty so I can add whatever media I want in it.

I thought I knew the theory but just wanted to clarify with you..

The water enters at the top of the tower and "trickles" through the media, this trickle effect gives it time and air for the large biological breakdown. It then leaves the tower at the bottom? and gets pumped back into the tank.

I assume that they are completely sealed so that in the event of a power failure it will not empty the fish tank.

Am I correct guys?
