Hi Everyone
Has anyone got any tips/ideas on raising fry in soft water?? My tap water comes out at 120 micro siemens! Would it be benificial to harden my water when raising fry, if so what would you recommend?? Look forward to your comments. Mark |

Hi Mark, All my fry were raised in soft water >100ms, there are too many old wives tales about regarding hardness, ALL discus in the wild grow in soft water, no problems. I spent time at Plymouth university proving discus do not absorb minerals from the water, and cannot, unless you use flake/pellet food which absorbs it and the fish take it in that way...................................... Raising the hardness can increase filter efficiency, and stop pH crashes in fry tanks, but other than that don't let it cross your mind, you are just duplicating nature, Cheers G -------------------- |

Hi Mark, You can raise discus in soft water and for the fry they do need more protein, add vitamins in your beefheart mixture. i.e. calcium, B complex, Lecithin vitamins, spirulina powder, etc. turkis |
