The Sim Contest Forum is proud to present our April Member of the Month....
!!!!! JadeO_o !!!!!!
We are happy to announce that we are bringing back the Member of the Month! SCF members need more recognition then we are given. We have a bunch of amazing editors and members here, that for some reason communities don’t get to see. As most of the MoMs were Mods, I think it’s only right to have the MoM torch passed down to our members. Since without you guys this place just wouldn’t be the same. From now on the MoM is for you guys! The staff will decide on a member who really is an amazing member, but doesn’t get the recognition that he/she deserves. And this month we have decided on JadeO_o! Congratulations!
This member is really known for her sweetness, and her amazing Disney love. It is a pleasure to talk to her, and I’m glad to see that she still hangs around SCF! This member, is also one of the few Sim Editors that still use 100% ingame. There’s nothing better then to see a Jade creation to lighten up your day. Thank you Jade for being such a great member and person. This months for you!
Let’s talk about your first memories at SCF. How exactly did you find us, and what made you want to be a member?
| QUOTE | I found SCF through flickr. I saw many people named it and I was curious and followed some link so I got there. At first, I was so intimidated that I just lurked.. for about two months! I was scared, I’d just started being a little more confident with the web world itself and joining such a big forum like that didn’t seem the smartest idea to me. So I started browsing all the threads, going through all the contests and staring at the pictures of the beautiful sims that were there. I was totally floored, so after a very long time I finally plucked up the courage and registered.
|
Please tell us about your first SCF Contest. Which contest was it? And so far, which has been your favorite contest to be in, and why?
| QUOTE | I actually was rather lucky because the first contest I applied for, I was immediately picked XD It was “Fashionista”, which in the end turned out to be one of the most famous and loved contests on SCF. In fact, its third season is about to start. I applied Ireland, and unfortunately she was eliminated on the second round. But that wasn’t surprising for me, for it was my first ever contest(not only on SCF,I had never done a contest before, I couldn’t even cut out sims from backgrounds!) and I had a lot of fun while I was there. About the favorite contest I’ve been in.. well, that’s a though one. I’m torn between ”Into Darkness” and “Under the big top”, because it’s the only contest I’ve ever won, so of course I’ve got beautiful memories of it, but in the end I’d probably choose “Into Darkness” because I incredibly got better and challenged myself to a point I thought it wasn’t even possible, since I never considered myself to even be an editor in the first place.
|
Throughout your contests, was there any favorite rounds that you did? If so what was it/were they?
| QUOTE | I don’t have a lot of favorites, because I’m not so fond of my works. I usually find a million flaws and get mad at myself for not being able to fix them. But these three are definitely some pictures I am proud of and still love:

“Into Darkness”round 3
 | QUOTE | When i read what the round was about(recreating a famous painting having your sim as a zombie) I was ridiculously happy, being the art nerdy I’m and all. I had a book on my shelf called ”Il Piacere” by the Italian writer Gabriele D’Annunzio. As much as I absolutely despised the book, its cover featured the fabulous ”Judith” Painting, by the Austrian artist Gustav Klimt. Needless to say, looking at the task and looking at the cover of the book I decided to try my hands at recreating that one particular painting. The moment I started I knew it was going to be hard. As a matter of fact,m y first try was totally horrid. I was discouraged but then I decided to go with a second attempt. Surprisingly, this came out. Not perfect, that’s sure, but it was the best thing I had done up to that moment. Unfortunately, I wasn’t called out so high, but I expected that since my co-contestants had been so freaking awesome! But I’m still so giddy thinking about that picture. That might sound cheesy, but I never really cared for my placement in contests as much as I do with the personal enjoyment and fun I have with editing!

“Portait “application picture
 | QUOTE | One day I will write an ode to sims’ headshots. Seriously, I’m a sucker for close ups, even in people. Faces are so awesome, you can read so much in them, that is also why my favorite thing to do in sims is giving my sims different expressions for each picture, I always try and not leave them with a blank stare. When I decided to join ”Portrait”-which is still running-I was so thrilled, cause I know it was a splendid opportunity to did many many pretty headshots! So with this happy attitude, I started working on my application. I decided to use Ireland so I started working on an headshot of her. I was so happy with the outcome, it’s probably still my favorite picture ever. It isn’t really nothing special, but I love the softness of it a lot.
|
| QUOTE | No doubt about this one,I can’t say anyone else rather than Ireland. If people know my name, they immediately associate it with Ireland’s. I’d define her as a cross between Tori Amos and Ariel, the Little mermaid. I created her on June 2007 and I fell in love. She was exactly the kind of character I was going for, so I proudly showed her to everyone I knew and I entered her in my first contest. I have many sims but I have no doubts about the fact she is my most beloved one.

Tell us about your future at SCF.. any contests or sims that you have up your sleeves?
| QUOTE | Well….I don’t have much time for contests being a busy bee with all my exams, so if I’ll join a contest in the future it’ll be just for the fun of it, so no, I don’t have any plans. ActualIy ,with Sims 3 coming up this summer it’s highly probable that many people will switch to that, so I don’t know what will happen with the community. And of course I’m doubtful about sims contests themselves, probably people will get fed up with editing and get more involved with the new sims game, who knows. And I have to be honest in saying SCF is going through some hard times, and I even considered leaving it for good a couple of times. But I think it’s the people who make a forum, so as long as some members and contests will give me desire to keep checking the forum everyday and be active, I’ll stay and get the positive and build some more nice memories. But I’m not blind so I do see things changed and are still changing, and even if I am the “sweetest member” as my custom title under my screenname says, i won’t be ignoring if things get even worse.

What inspires you the most when you are working on a picture? What outside influences help fuel your artistic drive?
| QUOTE | Certainly music. Almost every picture I make is inspired by a certain song or a certain mood set by it. That or other pictures I see. Since I can’t draw and sketch my own stuff, I shamelessly browse deviant art in search of inspiration. It usually works…but sometimes what you see in my pictures is just a mere product of my insane mind XD
|
I’ve noticed that music has seemed to be a heavy influence for you. Is there any pictures that you’ve incorporated certain music with?
Oh yes, there are a lot! “Into Darkness”final round
 | QUOTE | This picture is inspired by ”Sound of silence” by Simon and Garfunkel, then covered by many other artists, Including Emiliana Torrini, who is one of my favorite singers ever. I really like the mood of this picture. Freja had to be one of the few survivors of a nuclear disaster, in an urban setting. Amy(Sephiramy) helped me with the background, and I am immensely grateful to her. I think I did a fair job with the pose (even if I can still find 23234243432 flaws with it >_<)and the lightning. The thing I like the most about this picture is Freja’s face. She looks lost and scared, surrounded by-mind you-the silence.

This place is a prison
 | QUOTE | This edit has been done for my own amusement, using a sim I had just created, Lenore . She’s inspired by a singer I really love, Laura Marling and I find her very cute, but slightly creepy, which I love. The song is by The Postal Service and it talks about a man working all day in an oppressive office, then coming back home, and drowning all his frustrations in alcohol. Or at least that’s how I perceived it XD The picture kind of expresses this sense of claustrophobia, and at the time I did it I was feeling like that too, buried under tons and tons of exams and classes.

For a minute there, I lost myself
 | QUOTE | If you don’t know Radiohead, HERE,LET ME SLAP YOU!!!LOL,I joke. Most 10 year olds at my age listened to Spice Girls, I listened to Radiohead. And a bunch of other stuff….including Spice Girls. This picture has a theme, bullying. These two guys-Evan and Gavin-are bullying the other guy at the very back of the picture. Zack, cause he is the nerdy bookworm who isn’t nor that popular nor fitting in their little gang. So they have to bug him. I always make up stories for my sims, it’s just that I don’t share them often, and the song has nothing to do with the picture itself again. It just helped me for inspiration ^^

You’ve hosted just one contest with us. ‘Inner Music’. What inspired you to do something different? Are you planning on bringing it back for another cycle?
| QUOTE | SCF has a lot of contests based on modeling and I felt like it was time to try something that had another theme. At first I was very unsure, I never considered myself as a member who could host a contest. I feel uncomfortable in these kind of important roles, let’s say. But “Inner Music” came easily and I started planning it with such enthusiasm that it almost went by itself. I had a lot of fun and I was so glad to see so many beautiful pictures being created thanks to it. Plus, I’ve used it as a chance to see how people interpreted the same songs that I listened to and loved ,some for so many years. Regarding a second cycle. i’m actually thinking of bringing “Inner Music” back, but unfortunately I don’t know when. Hopefully this summer, and I promise it’s gonna be a blast!

Being a Disney Nut, did you ever consider doing a Disney themed contest? If so, any round ideas that would be a must have?
| QUOTE | This may came out as shocking for some, but no, I actually never thought about it! I’ve actually participated into a Disney contest, hosted by Jess/FrostedFlake. It was fun, and I wanted it to last more, but it was just one round, sadly! If I made a Disney contest I’d make sure the creativity element is essential. For instance, I would love to see how Disney heroines would be if they were in a modern environment or what kind of music would any Disney character represent. A cross between music and Disney would be SO awesome!
|
What, in your opinion, makes a good contest? What are the most important elements that you include in your contests that makes them so fun?
| QUOTE | Hmm…This isn’t easy Well. The idea of the contest has to catch my eye, otherwise I won’t even consider joining. I like contests that have an unique theme or things I never tried(i.e I’m currently in a Victoria’s Secret contest, it’s been fun, but so hard at the same time! @_@) Then, the hosts has to be reliable and the judges have to be helpful with their critiques. Role play isn’t essential to me, but just because I absolutely suck at it. If I were in a contest with a very active RP thread I’d probably try my best not to be boring! Every time I role played in my life, my brain totally froze, everything I said was SO uninteresting. Regarding my contests .. well…I hosted just “Inner Music” but I think it’s been successful because the songs were actually interesting to portray and I love the fact that I the judges and I decided on assigning songs for the first round. That probably was a bit of a surprise for the contestants.

Thanks so much for answering my questions! Now is your time to show off! Please show us your favorite pictures and let us know why you love them so much!!
| QUOTE | As I said before…I don’t have many favorites among my pictures…but I can list a couple I really enjoyed working on.
|
“Peek-A-Boo”
 | QUOTE | This is an edit featuring Jazpooh’s sim Chloe impersonating Pocahontas. I saw this beautiful fan art on dA and I tried to recreate it. I know it has a lot of imperfections, but I consider it as cute edit and most important ,a gift to a precious friend. I love Chloe’s playful expression and the way she’s peeking from behind the tree.

“To be made of glass”
 | QUOTE | This is perhaps the picture I spent most time on.3 days and a half to be exact. I still think a lot of things are off, but it’s certainly the closest thing I could get to what my original plan was. Inspired by a song*le shock*,”Glass” by Bat for lashes. Sim is Pearl and she’s trapped behind a plate-glass, protection of her submerged reign and trying to break it. I wanted it to seem nightmarish and to give a sense of suffocation, to describe a situation which you can’t escape. She’s about to break the glass but she is terrified she’ll remain stuck under it, but at the same time she’s scared of stepping out of the water, out of her “emerald city”. Of course, this is heavily inspired by the song but more than that it’s inspired by my view of said song, and I would like to write a story inspired of this wonderful album, I hope I’ll get around doing that! |
