I just got that same email from them. I'm still not sold on the game. There's still too many new "features" that sound really horrible and then there's the whole SecuRom thing. I might just end up sticking to TS2.

I just did my research on it and from wat I read its like a virus that stops you from burning any cd roms and it also stops you from doing a couple of other thigns and idk its not that scary to me I mean I dont do that type of stuff so I have nothing to worry about(I think confused.gif ).

SecuRom is the anti-piracy software (that doesn't work btw) that EA and a few other companies now use. It installs without your knowledge and hides itself in the registry just like spyware does and even if you uninstall the game, it stays on your computer. It's known to have bad side effects like breaking CD/DVD Burners (it broke my last one, it completely stopped working after installing BV) and messing up burning software and other programs, but EAxis ignores any complaints about it.

Well, recently, EA announced that they are going to use an updated version of SecuROM on Spore and all future games (which would include TS3) where the game wouldn't be able to be played without first connecting to the internet after installing to check to see that it's a valid copy and then again every 10 days or the game wouldn't work. They later changed this after tons of complaints and threats to boycott the games with it, and now instead of needing to verify your game every 10 days, it's now only when you update the game or download any custom content. But that's still not good since some people play their game on computers that aren't connected to the internet at all times. Plus, we don't even know what kind of problems this could cause to our computers. Anyway, you can join these forums and read more about SecuRom and ways to help get the word out to hopefully change EA's mind about it here:

The scenery looks great and all the new game features must be wonderful, but I'm not too excited for it. And not because of the securom thing, which does suck. It's completely unnecessary and a royal pain in the ass.
I'm just not ready to part with Sims 2 is all. XD

SecuRom isn't the only thing making me not really want TS3. Like for one, when you're playing one family, your other families are no longer frozen. So like while I'm playing family A, the sims in family B are aging, dating, getting married, etc without me telling them to. I could come back to family B and find that their toddler son is now a teen with a steady girlfriend and their teenage daughter is now an adult and engaged to Goopy or some other hideous Maxis made townie. I don't want that. I play with free will off because I want to control every single aspect of my sims' lives.

The second reason has to do with customization. From the sound of things, we can't just build houses in the game like we can now. I read somewhere that there will be a tool released later to build houses with. And we can't make our own neighborhoods either. For whatever reason, they thought we all wanted to be playing the same neighborhood so we could share what we did with certain families or sims.

And I don't like how they're going to hide the bars for the needs. So instead of seeing that they're getting tired, and plan accordingly, you get to wait until they need to get to bed and you'll get a pop-up saying the sim is tired and needs to go to bed. I like knowing ahead of time how my sims' needs are because like if I'm going to send them somewhere like to a community lot, I don't want to send them there unless I know they're all in the green.

Those are the main reasons I don't like the game. There will probably be more as more info is released.
