So while in line for Harry Potter I couldn't help but to notice a very large but very simple poster for an upcoming film: Ponyo.

Upon further investigation I realized that after a looooong wait there is finally another Hayao Miyazaki film coming to theaters in August!

I'm super excited! biggrin.gif

First thing a summary from Wikipedia!

The plot is centered on a fish girl, or mermaid, who runs away from her home in the sea. She ends up stranded on the shore and is rescued by Sōsuke, a five year old boy who lives on a cliff. After taking a great liking to her, Sōsuke names her Ponyo and vows to protect her forever.

The first thing I noticed is that the two main characters are played by the younger sister of Miley Cyrus and the little brother of the Jonas Brothers. I'm looking forward to hearing them because I always love it when kids are voice kids in movies rather than adults. Other notable cast is Tina Fey, Matt Damon, and Cate Blanchette.

So yeah, feel free to discus!

Heh, I didn't even read anything yet and I already instantly thought "Hayao Miyazaki" the instant I saw that poster!

While I'm not a fan of either the Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus, I'll give their younger siblings a shot. Besides, the most important thing to note here is Miyazaki, who has never disappointed. So I think I'll try to see this movie at some point, if I have the cash when it comes out... and if anybody has free time to see it with me. Besides the money issue, another reason I don't go to the theater that often is because other people are usually never free when I am. And I hate going to the movies by myself. It's just never felt right. %5E_%5E%3B.gif

I've been checking out information on this (but trying not to spoil myself since it only comes out in a month!) and I really am excited! I was thinking I was going to have to wait to until "The Princess and the Frog" to see some traditional animation again in movie theaters! As much as I love PIXAR I'm getting tired of 3D

It's always refreshing to see some really stunning traditional animation and Miyazaki's is always top notch biggrin.gif

And now if it wasn't almost 1am I would pull out "Spirited Away" just for old times sake XD.gif

For some, that one bit may be weirdly adorable.

To me? It just makes me shake my head in disbelief in how far the human race has fallen. I don't get how the Boneus Brothers and Hannah Mountsanybody get worshiped by all these sycophantic sheep. Oh. Wait. That's why.

Miyazaki should be ashamed for ruining his movie with those fools...

(Yes. Those people really do make me rage this much.)

ADDED ON: And while you guys are willing to give the younger ones a shot, I refuse. Because it'll just be like a John Cena wrestling match. "Same old shit! Same old shit!". Just like their idiotic older siblings, and in one case their idiot father, once they get a taste of fame, they'll just do the same shit those morons that came before them did.

There's only one thing I really really hope for whenever I hear/see the name Cyrus involved with anything aside from being the big boss man in Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum...

I hope they don't play that song, that Achy Breaky song, the most annoying song I know...

XD.gif

(Though I truely don't know a darn thing about all those people, aside from I have found that Miley Cyrus person somewhat annoying to hear in interviews on stuff like the Tonight Show and similar; she seems to talk too much in such situations, in an annoying-to-me sort of way)

...........................

Anywayyyyyys! I sadly don't recognize this Hayao Miyazaki name, and could not tell you if I've seen something done by this person before (I do not often pay attention to the names associated with movies a lot, so yeah hehheh.gif ). Definitely looks like something I might look into more information about when I have better time, though, because I always like good traditionally animated stuff

But on the other hand, people can't help who they're related to. Heck, lots of people out there don't even get along with their siblings. I don't think it's fair to judge someone based on the actions of another person, regardless of whether or not they're related to that other person.

Another thing to consider is that as far as those teeny bopper Disney actors go, is that they're annoying on TV because the roles they play are roles written specifically for those actors. I'm certain that such will not be the case in this movie. Besides, let us not forget that Lance Bass (of N'Sync fame) played Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts, and that hardly ended up ruining the game.

Part of me wanted to gasp quite loudly, but instead... I shall direct you to Wikipedia!

Awwww come on, you can't judge them by their brothers and sisters acting and music careers. Both have been on tv very little themselves (other than a cameo apparently for Noah on Hannah Montana, and the parts on JONAS for Frankie) and they are both relitively young. It's like someone hating you just because of your brothers or sisters. I know I would hate that.

Anyways I trust Miyazaki's/Studio Ghibli/Disney's judgement, after all Kirsten Dunst played a wonderful Kiki, Daveigh Chase (Lilo from Lilo and Stitch) played an awesome Chihiro, and there have been tons of famous voices lent to these films (Christian Bale, Billy Crystal,Anna Paquin, Dakota Fanning, etc) which rarely end badly in my opinion.

Surprisingly enough, I really didn't think Lance did that bad a job as Sephiroth. Plus, the fanweeping that all the "OH YEH SEPHIROTH IZ HXC MO****" fanboys did was just lolarious.

Of course, when you hear the voice so much because you can't beat the smurf, it does grate a little bit...

But I digress. I just don't see this turning out so well. Again, considering who one of the kids' dad is... Well, yeah. It's just the continuation of an achy, breaky legacy.

I can see your point, but allow me to mention that the majority of the people you mentioned are all relatively good actors. (And besides, can you imagine anybody else playing the oh-so-awesome Mike Wazowski than Billy Crystal?)

Hey Trace Cyrus and Mason Musso (Mitchel Musso's older brother) are in Metro Station and are both really good! I do still have faith in the Cyrus clan XD.gif

Anywho, I honestly don't see how this can turn out bad. Like I said, the roles aren't being written for those actors. Actually, on that note, one has to take into consideration that it's a Japanese film that gets dubbed into English, so the involvement of these actors really does have very little to do with the contents of the movie itself.

Actually, that wasn't an attempt to circumvent anything. It's a parody of the lifeless hacks who DO think Sephiroth is the end all, be all.

Also, you realize that's about the same as saying the reason the dialogue in certain Dragonball scenes is bad is because of Toei, and not Funimation. Or how awful Sonic dialogue is in general is because of Sega, and not 4Kids. Right?

I realize that, but misspelled cursing is still cursing. The misspelling of it just makes it so that it'll go through instead of being censored... which, whether it was intentional or not, is a circumvention of the swear filter.

I realize what you're trying to say, but the dialogue isn't up to the actors, it's up to the writers. The actors just read their lines and try to act it out (hence why they're called actors) as best as they can. Since the dialogue in question isn't up to the actors, then we have to rely on the writers at Disney who have already worked on all the past localizations of Miyazaki films. They seem to have a pretty good track record, though, so... ya, this is why I don't really see a problem. Unless the actors in this dubbing decide to adlib a bunch of unrelated stuff and Disney somehow approves it (and I doubt that'll happen, especially since even Disney themselves hold Miyazaki films in very high regard), then I don't see anything in this movie coming out as bad as you say it will.
