Mja Inc Investigations

Its been around 38 years ago..In Kokomo Indiana in an middle-class housing addition called the Forrest Park addition..When 14 year old Rick Olson was at the dinner table having dinner with his mother,10 year old brother,& step-father..Sounds normal--Right ?

Until you take into account:That the step-father while eating dinner with his family was cleaning his hand gun at the dinner table..NOT so normal and very dangerous !!!!

While the step-father was cleaning a small calibur hand gun with clip..The clip was out of the gun--the gun fires..The shot struck 14 year old Rick Olson in one of his eyes and he dies on the dinning room floor..

Accident or Homicide ?

If nothing else:Wouldnt you think reckless homicide or sometime kind of neglect charge or some child endangerment law ? After all the step-father and his actions no matter how you slice it caused the death of Rick Olson..

A Grand-Jury or an Inquest was held to hear the circumstances of the events that led to Rick Olson's death..It was ruled:Accidental

Three of Rick's closest friends who were young teenagers, first was questioned by Police..Then they had to testify at the Hearing..

Before the Hearing there were 3 reports of un-wanted contact by the step-father towords 2 of these teenage witnesses and their families..In 2 of those situations the only way contact could have been made was the step-father had to be watching them..

When the 3 young witnesses testified at the Hearing with the step-father in the same room the story they told was unthinkable...

The step-father :Big Ed is what the teens called him,he was about 6 ft. and around 300 plus pounds..Big Ed painted himself to be to the teenagers:As an ex-biker gang member from California even with his COLORS still in tow..

Testimony went on the lines:Big Ed turned these teenagers onto Pot-Beer-Whiskey-Females..

Big Ed told the teens stories of his crimes which included murder-murders that you make it look like an accident-bombings-beatings-drugs-gambling-guns & prositution...

How Big Ed befriended these teens was the 4 teens had a garage band..The garage band played at school dances and teen clubs..Big Ed heard the band and wanted to be there manager which he did..Big Ed would also take the teens fishing & to play pool..

Testimony went on:That it wasnt long after that,Big Ed was always around and he ended up meeting Rick's mother who was a widow and close to being 15 years older than Big-Ed..Before too long Mrs.Olson and Big Ed were dating...Soon the dating couple held parties and the teens were always at the parties..

Testimony went on:Not long after a few dates Big Ed moved in with Mrs.Olson in her house with her 2 boys..Thats when things turned to the dark-side...Big Ed started running the house and everyone in it that he was the Boss of the household..His way or else !!!! Soon mental & physical abuse followed...

This type of abuse was also inflicted on the 3 teen friends and they witnessed alot of abuse that Big Ed inflicted on Rick..They lived in fear and never talk about what was going on not even to Rick...

The teens said Big Ed always made them play the game trading punches in the shoulders or flinch-if someone makes a aggressive move toword you and you flinch the guy gets to punch you in the shoulder..The teens said that Big Ed would hit them so hard their whole body shook..Big Ed was always teaching the teens self--defence moves using the teens as punching bags..

The testimony went on:Big Ed once punished Rick by making him take a tooth brush and clean the tile floors..All floors in the 3 bedroom home was tile...It took Rick 52 hours with one sandwhich and water only...

Rick once ran away from home and it was thought that his mother was expecting a child..Big Ed took 2 of the teens out with him to look for Rick which he was found and Big Ed forced him the car..When getting in the house Big Ed left the living-room and came back in with a shot-gun..He put the shot-gun to Ricks lips and says if your mom mis-carriages because you ran away--I will kill you--he struck Rick with the shot-gun and drew blood..

The testimony went on:Big Ed took the teens fishing one time..Rick accidently broke one of Big Ed's fishing poles he pulled a hand gun out and held it on Rick and said:" One of these days this gun is going to go off.." They were about 8 miles from home and Big Ed made Rick walk about 4 of those miles home..

The testimony went on:The Indiana State Police lab tested the gun that killed Rick..Its our understanding that the lab said there was no-way for the gun to discharge in the way it was being handled unless you pull the trigger..

Big Ed said he dosent remember pulling the trigger-the gun just went off..

As we stated it was ruled:An accidental death and that ruling has haunted some of the people involved for years..The 3 teens that testified being there age couldnt and didnt understand why Big Ed wasnt in Jail.
--------------------------------------------------------------
These are just some of the facts of the events that took place...

Mja has been asked to look into this Accidental Shooting..The 3 friends of Ricks after all these years still stand by their testimony..They still feel Rick was murdered and there is new evidence that surfaced years later that if it been available at the Hearing charges more than likely would have been filed..

Mja will be looking into avenues to get this Accidental Death looked at again..
